Summary/Objective

Lyman Products is seeking a Material Handler.

The Material Handler will be assigned tasks associated with supporting the building and testing of all Mark-7 equipment produced in Lyman Product’s Florida facility.  As part of the Assembly Team, this position works very closely with Production Management, Procurement, and Quality Assurance/Quality Control and is responsible for maintaining the throughput needed to meet Mark-7 productivity and quality goals.

The Preferred Candidate will have experience and/or a good understanding of the ammunition, firearms, and shooting sports industry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Loads, unloads, and moves parts, assemblies, and other materials throughout the facility in support of production.
  • Reads work orders or follows oral instructions to determine material movement.
  • Works with shipping and QC to receive materials and move into inventory locations as needed.
  • Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand or with moving equipment.
  • Conveys materials to or from storage or work sites to designated area, using carts, hand truck, fork truck, pallet jack or other equipment.
  • Use a hand-held scanner to move and transfer materials to and from work-centers.
  • Operates powered industrial truck or pallet jack to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
  • Notifies supervisor of any material or inventory issues and helps to find solutions.
  • Maintains a clean and clutter free environment, with a pro-active safety mindset
  • Must be a highly energetic person willing to perform a variety of tasks at a fast pace.

General Qualifications

  • One or more years’ work experience with material handling, packaging, or assembly in a manufacturing environment
  • Fork Truck certified preferred (training & certification may be provided if needed)
  • Lean Manufacturing experience preferred
  • Experience using hand-held scanner to move and transfer materials to and from work centers
  • Basic computer skills, familiarity with inventory management systems (ERPs) preferred
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (lifting equipment may be provided)
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, ability to speak and read English.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

The Material Handler operates in a manufacturing environment, with the majority of time spent between inventory locations and the assembly floor.  This role will occasionally involve interaction with other departments as needed to accomplish production goals.  Material Handler will work within various areas on the facility floor with computer and scan-gun access as per the role’s needs.

  • Stand, walk, and sit frequently
  • Regularly use hand tools and small power tools in the assembly of products
  • Lift and/or move up to 10 pounds very frequently, up to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally (lifting equipment may be provided)
  • Vision abilities required are close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.  Provided magnifying equipment may be used as needed.
  • Must be able to read and understand English.
